Jazz for the Soul

‘Jazz for the Soul’, our gift to the West Valley

Do you like jazz? Or would you like to get better acquainted with this well-loved, lively and syncopated style of music?  Just see what its skilled practitioners can do with your favorite ballad. Amazing!

If you are so-inclined, mark your calendars and head for New Hope Covenant’s “Jazz for the Soul” free concerts held the second Sunday night of the month – fall through spring – in the church sanctuary. We’re located at 8217 W. Country Gables Dr., just east off 83rd Ave. in Peoria.

On these nights, from 6 to 8 p.m., our sanctuary becomes a concert hall where jazz fans from around the Valley gather to hear their favorite trios, quartets and singers perform. These artists are tops in their field and are the same personalities who play at Phoenix’s best-known clubs and resorts. At an intermission, where refreshments are available, guests can visit with the performers.

We kicked off the series in February, 2002. It was the brainchild of well-known bassist Dwight Kilian, who is a former chairman of the church. He conceived it as a no-strings-attached gift to the West Valley community where very few jazz venues exist. He and other New Hope members, notably jazz-singer Vicki McDermitt Parrish, also saw it as a way to announce the presence of our church in the in the area. These goals remain the same today.

New Hope budgets a monthly amount for the concerts and a donation jar at each performance helps take up the slack. Thanks also go to Jazz in AZ, our co-sponsor, who has graciously promoted “Jazz for the Soul” over the years.

Come visit and bring your friends.
